Refection:
I was simply sketching to practice drawing without erasing anything. I decided to draw insects because they’re not made up of perfect lines and shapes. I found myself designing a format that resembled a bug study. I love to sketch in this format, I find myself improving my ability to copy down images accurately. I used a Hb pencil and watercolors to complete this piece.
Analysis:
I’m happy with how this piece turned out. I enjoy how the bright colors and realistic insects contrast with the white vacant area. I said at the beginning of the year that I wanted to work with watercolors again after a long absence; this was my first attempt. I'm looking forward to doing more watercolor work in the future and improving my blending skills; it's a difficult medium to master.
Discovery in the process:
I learned that I enjoy drawing imperfectly and allowing minor errors to add to the composition. I'd like to create more pieces based on a study layout. I'm already working on one with apparel, and I think it's helping me acquire patience to trust the process. This approach will help me with the simple sketches I'll have to do in the future as part of my job.
