Reflection:
I went into this piece with the simple idea of a girl sitting on a couch. I was influenced by artists like Issac Hernandez and Bo Fransson. I had a general idea of the colors I wanted to use, but the tones of green and red turned out to be much darker than I had anticipated, so I made a detour.
Analysis:
This was my first attempt at painting with messy brushstrokes. I appreciate the process of doing this type of work because I wasn't sure how it would end out. As I painted, I still didn't have a clear idea of what I was trying to achieve, yet a feeling I was trying to portray. I ended with an uncomfortable, slightly ominous painting.
Discovery in the process:
This piece served as good practice for me. Going into art without a plan can result in some of the best creations, but I've always found it difficult to create without a strategy or beforehand sketches. I have gained an understanding of spacing and view through freehand painting and I will definitely be improving my skills in this medium more so in the future.
